Domee ShiA groundbreaking new Pixar short film has been announced.

Bao will make its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival and will also be played in theaters worldwide this summer before the Incredible’s 2.

Bao is the story of a child-parent relationship told through the lens of a Chinese Canadian mother.

It will be directed by Domee Shi who has worked as a story artist on Inside Out, The Good Dinosaur, Incredibles 2, and Toy Story 4.

The Tribeca Film Festival describes Bao this way: An empty-nesting Chinese mom gets another chance at motherhood when one of her dumplings springs to life. But she must come to terms with the bittersweet revelation that nothing stays cute and small forever.

According to the Pixar Post, Shi was born in China, then moved to Toronto. She got her start as an intern at Pixar in 2011.  The story is a mixture of Chinese culture and mythology.
