Asian-American citizens hold slight edge over non-citizen Asians in Bay Area tech jobs

Asians now make up a majority of the work force among tech jobs in Silicon Valley, according to a report in the Mercury News.  Slightly more than half that Asian workforce are citizens.  That means nearly a quarter of the tech jobs are going to non-citizens, many of whom are allowed to work on H1-B visas.  Some fear this could lead to a backlash against  Asians Americans which is something the community has seen before.”After the Chinese helped build the railroads, by the 1880s there was a recession and white workers in San Francisco and California were complaining that the new immigrants were taking their jobs,” Buck Gee, president of the board of the Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation, said in the Mercury News.

How real is the feared political backlash against Asian Americans?
