Both Sides of Political Aisle Praise Senator Daniel Inouye, Dead at 88.

 

Senator Daniel InouyeSenator Daniel Inouye died today of respiratory failure. He was 88 and the longest serving U.S. Senator in the nation. The voters of Hawaii elected him to the Senate for 8 consecutive terms. He also was Hawaii’s first Congressman, elected to office in when Hawaii became a state in 1959. He was the first Japanese American elected to Congress.

President Obama said “It was his incredible bravery during World War II – including one heroic effort that cost him his arm but earned him the Medal of Honor – that made Danny not just a colleague and a mentor, but someone revered by all of us lucky enough to know him, ”the Washington Post reported.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch O’Connell of Kentucky said Inouye  “was the kind of man, in short, that America has always been grateful to have, especially in her darkest hours: Men who lead by example and expect nothing in return.”

 In 50 years, what will be most remembered about Senator Inouye ?
