The Chicago Tribune reported that the highest ranking of eight soldiers charged in the suicide death of Army soldier Danny Chen will be discharged from the army. First Lieutenant Daniel Schwartz is the only one of 8 soldiers charged in the case to be discharged. It has not been determined whether Schwartz will receive an honorable or dishonorable discharge.
The light sentences handed down in this case has been a source of frustration for Chen’s families, his supporters and Asian American civil rights activists.
“At a very minimum, all eight should be discharged,” said Elizabeth OuYang, president of the New York chapter of the Organization of Chinese Americans
