SF Weekly: Ghost Scam Artists Strike Again

fraudScam artists in San Francisco who pray on superstitious Asian immigrants who believe in ghosts, spirits and bad luck have struck again, but this time in San Francisco’s Richmond District, reported the  SF Weekly. The so called ghost scam has primarily been played out in San Francisco’s Chinatown since last year and the District Attorney’s office has been holding a series of education forums to warn potential victims.

The perpetrators tell their victims they need to bring their valuables to a herbal doctor to cleanse themselves of their bad luck. The victims place their valuables in a bag and are told not to open it for several days. When they do finally open it, the victim learns the bag has been switched with one full of junk.

If you think you have been a victim or you know of someone who has, report the fraud or scam to the SFPD at 553-0123; for Cantonese, please call 553-9212.
