One thousand members of the public in Hawaii came to pay their last respects today to Senator Daniel Inouye. Among those joining them, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, reported Fox News.
“Daniel was the best senator among us all,” Reid told those assembled, adding later: “Whenever we needed a noble man to lean on, we turned to Sen. Dan Inouye. He was fearless.”
Today’s memorial took place at a cemetary in Honolulu where more than 400 members of the famed 442nd Japanese American regimental combat team are buried.
One more memorial will be held in Kauai on Friday and then the Senator will be buried in a private ceremony.
