Lia Chang: Allegiance Tops Nominations from San Diego Critics Circle

Nominations from the San Diego Critics Circle has been announced and the cast of Allegiance tops the list with six, reports Lia Chang.

The play from George Takei about a family torn apart by the incarceration of Japanese Americans received nomations for Outstanding New Musical; an outstanding female featured performance nomination for Lea Salonga’s portrayal of Kei Kimura and an outstanding male featured performance in a musical nod for Michael K. Lee as Frankie Suzuki.  The play also received nomations for ouotstanding direction of a musical for Helmer Stafford Arima, along with outstanding lightning design and projection design.

Allegiance sets box office records and Takei is hopeful it will get picked up for a Broadway run.
