Preservation Magazine: @GeorgeTakei Returns to Incarceration Camp Where He & His Family Were Imprisoned

It was an emotional return for actor George Takei to the incarceration camp where the government forced he and his family during World War II to live.

The actor was most moved by the names etched in the tank-shaped monument at the prison’s cemetary in Rohwer, Ark.

Takei told Preservation Magazine the names represent “young men who went from behind American barbed-wire fences to fight with amazing heroism. The 442nd regimental combat team is the most decorated unit to come back from the entire Second World War. The American flags that covered their coffins were delivered back to their parents or their wives still imprisoned. The irony of that was just unbearable.”
