Darren Criss of Glee fame answers the question every actor faces. What’s it like playing a character so much unlike you? In this case he’s a straight man playing a gay character.
Criss told the Gay Times.
“Your job as an actor is always to empathize with your character regardless of if he’s… I am not going to put this on the same level as me – don’t get this misconstrued – but if you’re playing, I don’t know, a homicidal maniac, you empathize with that person. I’m not saying playing a gay character is anything close, so be careful with that one on paper! I’m obviously not comparing the two, I’m just saying that it’s your job to embrace whatever the character is regardless,” said Criss.
Criss also tells the Gay Times he prefers theater versus television, talks about the development of Blaine as a character and what his Filipino American family thinks about his career.
