Indian Americans are reacting with outrage to the gang rape & death of a Delhi woman.
Six men are accused in the brutal attack and charged in the rape and murder of the 23-year old woman on a city bus.
“The victim girl was a brave and courageous girl who fought till the very last minute for her dignity and her life,|” Satnam Singh Chahal president of North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) told IBN. “She is a true hero and symbolizes the best in Indian youth and women. The nation should mourn the passing of this brave daughter of India.”
Earlier this week, the Indian American Muslim Council condemned the shockingly high incidents of sexual violence in India.
Crime statistics in India show a 792% increase of rape in India in the last four decades.
24,000 were reported last year alone with many more believed to have gone unreported.
“The bestial forms of rape and humiliation inflicted against women from the minorities during the sectarian pogroms in Gujarat, Punjab, Orissa and Assam, as well as the brutalization of Dalit and Adivasi women on a regular basis call for national soul-searching and introspection,” said Mr. Shaheen Khateeb, President of IAMC said.
