KTVU: ID Cards To Be Issued in Oakland to Help Undocumented Immigrants

Mayor Jean QuanOakland, CA Mayor Jean Quan announced a plan today to begin issuing municipal identification cards that could help undocumented immigrants while fighting crime. Quan says the identification program is open to anyone who wants one, not just undocumented immigrants.

“It’s no secret that day laborers who earn cash have been targeted for robberies because criminals know they are reluctant to report crimes to the police,” KTVU quoted City Councilman Ignacio De La Fuente as saying.

The plan has been in the works for several years.
