Asian Fortune: Why Fewer Asian Americans Own Guns

posted by Randall

gunJust 15 percent of Asian Americans own guns, according to a survey reported on in Asian Fortune.

That’s a third of the gun ownership rate among white voters. Why is that? In many Asian countries, gun ownership among private citizens is illegal. Also most Asian Americans who list a preference identify with the democratic party and gun ownership among democrats has declined over the years.

52-year old Mai Le lives in Virginia. She recently bought a gun after being frightened by what happened in Newtown, CT. She immediately signed up for a gun safety course after her purchase.

“I learned how to use [the gun], how to safely store it, and I was interested [in learning] because if something happens, I can protect my family and myself,” Le said.
