A new program in the Bronx serving primarily the South Asian community is teacher workers how to set up their own businesses, reports the Daily News. The so called cooperative businesses will receive both technical and legal support to help make this happen. “By teaching more organizations how to train New Yorkers to develop worker-owned cooperative businesses, we’re helping create more stable, better paying jobs in the communities that need them most,” City Council Speaker Christine Quinn. The SCO Family of Services’ Center for Family Life program is targeting the immigrant community and says it will help families increase income and develop small business people who will create jobs for themselves.
