Korean American leaders successfully won unanimous approval for a Korean American Day in Montgomery County, Maryland .

The County Council voted 9-0 to approve the special day. The day recognizes the first group of immigrants to the U.S. from Korea, who arrived Jan. 13, 1903.

One speaker said the Korean American community never thought their accomplishments would ever be recognized. Dignitaries from the Korean American community called it a “great honor” and “historic.” One called it a measuring stick of how far Korean Americans had come in the area. My MC Media carried today’s news conference.
