The Associated Press is reporting that Japanese American film director Nagisa Oshima is dead at the age of 80.
He is best known for his films In the Realm of Senses and Empire of Passion.
Oshima died of complications from pneumonia in Tokyo.
In 1976, Oshima made In the Realm of the Senses.

Oshima suffered a stroke in 1996 and directed his last film in 1999
