A group of Honolulu Chinatown leaders have submitted a petition of 500 signatures urging the liquor commssion to ban the sale of alcohol during block parties, reports KITV.
“It’s a constant excuse that we find that these promoters say, ‘We need the alcohol to make money,'” said Chu Lan Shubert-Kwock of the Chinatown Business and Community Association. “But, if you need to make money on a cultural festival, don’t do it. Get cultural funding. Get sponsors and do one for the community and not for profit.”
Supporters say the booze has lead to public intoxication..
