A movement is underway in New York’s Chinatown and Lower East Side to bring more sustainable bicyling to those communities. Local Spokes is teaming with Asian Americans for Equality and other groups to make the dream a reality.
Navigating New York’s maze of traffic can be a nightmare. Many have found the solution of bicyling to be cconomical, green, and fast. The groups hope to make bicycling in those two neighborhoods a model for the rest of the city. The report looked at barriers to bike ownership among low income people, along with infrastructure and safety needs.
Surveys were conducted in Chinese, English and Spanish. An action plan has been developed and now funding is being sought to implement it.
