The fan All Star voting is closed and the results will be announced Thursday. At last count, Jeremy Lin was third in the voting, just 40,000 votes behind Chris Paul and being named to the starting line up for the Western Conference All Stars.
Some speculate an 11th hour surge in voting for Lin could push him into the starting line up.
I’m a huge Jeremy Lin fan, but I have to join the chorus of those who say it would be unfortunate if he’s named to the starting line up. As great of a story Lin has become and as much of an inspiration he is to Asian Americans, Christians and underdogs everywhere, he doesn’t deserve it. Bleacher Report delves into a statistical analysis of why that is, and I won’t repeat it here.
I do, however, think there’s room for fan favorites on the All Star team. If you believe the game is for the NBA fans, then Lin deserves a nod. He generates more buzz than arguably any player in the League. His brand of basketball is entertaining and he’s a wonderful ambassador for the game. Here’s hoping he’s named an All Star. What do you think, does Jeremy Lin deserve to be named to the All Star team?
