Young, bright, energetic and beautiful, Korean American actress Jennivere Song Lee looks forward to the day more parts open up for Asian American actors. Lee began studying fashion at age 16 and never thought much about a career in Hollywood. She says there weren’t enough parts to make that a viable career choice. But she told Han Cinema, she thinks that will change.
“There aren’t too many roles for Asian Americans out there but as Asian Americans are one of the fastest growing populations in the U.S and watch just as much television as other ethnic groups,” she said. “I’m hoping there will be TV shows, sitcoms, talk shows focused on the lives of Asian Americans. Many years ago, African Americans didn’t have shows like The Cosby Show, Amos N Andy, Family Matters or The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. It would be great if Asian Americans had as many TV shows centered around an Asian people- an Asian American family, a sit-com about Asian Teenagers or professionals.”
Lee plays the female lead in the upcoming movie, Sucker. The indie film is currently in post production.
“I really wish my childhood friends pursued their artistic dreams the way they have,” she told Asiance. “I’d be a lot more prolific if I had a team of trusted friends I grew up with to make films with me on a regular basis. We are post production at the moment and will enter it into film festivals very soon! I recently was also in a few scenes in a film called “Simple Moves” which was written, co-directed and starring Pau Maso.”
