Sampan: Documentary on Washington, D.C. Chinatown Needs a Kickstart

Yi ChenThe oldest ethnic community in Washington, D.C. is not the African American community, but Chinatown. A documentary profiling that community is scheduled to be screened at the “Our City Film Festival” on March 10.

But the film simply titled Chinatown is in need of funds so it can complete post-production. A Kickstarter campaign is 60 percent toward reaching its goal.

” The film explores the intricate cultural and social issues facing the community today.”  Today around 400 Chinese immigrants remain in the neighborhood.  The last full-service Chinese grocery store closed in 2005. ” said filmmaker Yi Chen to Sampan.
