KXTV: Vietnamese American Pro Democracy Activist from California Released from Prison in Vietnam

A pro-Democracy activists from California has been released from a prison in Vietnam after being detained nine months. Nguyen Quoc Quan had been accused of trying to overthrow the Vietnamese government.

He had gone to Vietnam to teach non-violent protest, but was arrested as soon as he landed in the country.

“I’m so worried that he will face trial in Vietnam, but somehow last night, suddenly, they released him,” His wife, Mai Huong Ngo said to KXTV.  “I’m so happy.”

Her husband landed at Los Angeles International Airport last night, greeted by his wife and children, reported news.com.au.

“I love you a lot, and i feel very near you every minute in jail, he told his wife.

Supporters say this is a victory for the pro-Democracy movement.

“This is a celebration for all of us because his release means what to all of us?” Tran said. “It means that this government cannot just do whatever they want to do anymore. We the people have the power to change things.”
