Asian Fortune: Asian Immigrants Less Likely to Get Breast Cancer Screenings

Health The Center of Disease Control has found that Asian American women are less likely to get screened for breast cancer. Just 64.1% of Asian women get the recommended screenings, a rate described as significantly lower than black and white women, reports Asian Fortune.

That’s particularly disturbing since breast cancer is the second leading cause of death among Asian American women. Recent immigrants were the least likely to get screened. Those without health insurance or lacked access to health care also were less likely to get screened.

Screenings can lead to early life saving treatment. Without screenings, woman especially in the early stages of breast cancer have no other way to know if they have cancer since symptoms often do not appear in the early stages.

Asian Fortune has detailed information about those most likely to have breast cancer and information on how often and when women should get screened.
