Rakesh Agarwa came to America 30 years ago with just $20 in his pocket. Today he’s a wealthy CEO of a North Carolina business, Rug and Home. Now the Christian Science Monitor reports he’s giving back by establishing a non-profit to help the poor in his native India.
“I come from an area where 50 to 60 percent of the people don’t have running water or electricity,” he says. “I wanted to go back and do something for that area.”
He went back to Bahuti, India with a team of medical volunteers and was greeted by 4,000 people asking for help.
Aragwa launched Vision Express to offer cataract surgeries at a cost of just $25.

“It’s certainly a health-care initiative, but equally as important to me is building bridges,” he says.
