A report in the Cornell Daily Sun finds that administrators & professors are divided as to whether Asian Americans are held to a higher admission standard at Cornell University.
Universities such as Harvard & Princeton have been accused of putting a cap on Asian American admissions. But at Cornell, the percentage of Asian Americans has increased every year for the last three. Asian Americans make up 14.9 percent of the class of 2014, 16.4 percent of the Class of 2015 and 16.9 percent of the Class of 2016, according to the University’s Institutional Research and Planning
“We don’t have specific Asian-American admissions. We don’t admit by identity,” A.T. Miller, vice provost for academic diversity said.
But Prof. Derek Chang, history and Asian American studies has a more skeptical view.
“It’s unclear, which is not a satisfying answer. There is a lot of conflicting evidence,” Chang said.
