Efforts to save the oldest Japanese Presbyterian Church in Southern California gained new momentum with a visit from the Japanese consulate this week, reports the OC Register.
The church in the Orange County town of Winterburg includes a mission, family home and bungalow, among other structures. Japanese Consulate General Jun Niimi visited the site exactly one year after the fight to preserve the church was launched by Historic Wintersburg Preservation Task force
“This is the one year anniversary of trying to tell the story of Historic Wintersburg,” Mary Urashima, chairwoman of the Historic Wintersburg Preservation Task Force said. “We recognize we can’t do this on our own so we’re looking for guidance and support to help us in our efforts to preserve these buildings.”
