Chicago Sun Times: Family Battles Over Estate of Indian American Lottery Winner After Poisoning Death

CATEGORIES

poisoningThe story seems like its ripped right out of the pages of a Hollywood script. The family of a million dollar lottery winner believed to have been poisoned to death before he could collect his winnings is now fighting over his estate, reports the Chicago Sun Times.

Uroof Khan died the morning after he ate a meal cooked by his wife.  The coroner first ruled that Khan died from natural causes, but after a tip from unidentified family members and further investigation, it was determined he died from cyanide poisoning.

His wife has denied any involvement in his killing and now her attorney is arguing  two-third of Khan’s two million dollar estate should go to her even though he died without a will. The Sun Times reports the attorney has produced documents showing Khan signed an agreement weeks before his death that interest in his dry cleaning business would go to his wife.

The Khan’s brother says the sudden appearance of the agreement is fishy.

Meanwhile, results from an autopsy done after Khan’s body was exhumed have not yet been released.
