Seattle Times: Diversity is Essential to a Company’s Bottom Line

Ralph de la Vega, President AT&T MobileAn op-ed in the Seattle Times lays out the argument for diversity. Edward Iwata, an author and journalist based in the SanFrancisco Bay Area argues diversity isn’t about political correctness, it’s about the bottom line.

Case in point, Ralph de la Vega, a Cuban immigrant pictured here, and Roberto Garcia have made AT&T an Hispanic marketing leader. In fact many of AT&T’s retail outlets are in Hispanic neighborhood.

Iwata says other companies that have utilized diversity to broaden their business include American Express, IBM, Intel, Cisco Systems, Procter & Gamble — plus Washington-based Microsoft, Starbucks, Weyerhaeuser, and Amazon.com.
