Boston Globe: It’s Not Your Father’s Spam. Spam Goes Glam

posted by Randall

SpamIf you combine spice with ham you get Spam, the infamous canned ham especially popular in Hawaii.  The snack is often combined with rice to make Spam misubi, a dish combining Spam with rice.

Now an emeritus professor  at Harvard, second generation Japanese American and Congressional Gold Medal winner has turned Spam misubi into an art form, according to the Boston Globe.

Susumu “Sus” Ito, 93, learned to love Spam as a G.I. stationed in Hawaii. The inexpensive canned ham was a regular part of his army rations. Since then he’s taken his love of Spam into the states and Spam misubi can be found anywhere from California to even Tokyo.

Ito now considers Spam misubi his specialty, and every party he goes to,  Ito’s Spam misubi is a hit. You can get his recipe and find out his secrets for the making it in the Boston Globe
