Neon Tommy: LA Chinatown to Get New Council Person for First Time in 12 Years

City Council candidates for District 1 in Los Angeles participated in a voter forum on issues important to the Chinatown community.

Neon Tommy reports that District 1 is 69 percent Asian American.

“There is a lot going on, I want to know how it is going to affect us, what the aftermath is gonna be?” Yeraldin Gama from Pasadena said. She is particularly concerned about development in the area. “Will it benefit us or just drive everybody out?”

According to a survey by UCLA, the top concerns among Chinatown residents are ob opportunity, public safety, healthcare and housing.
