The Houston Rockets playoff hopes may rest with Jeremy Lin. A blog by Peter Schauer of the Bleacher Report concludes that James Harden may have superstar-like numbers, but Houston can’t make the playoffs without strong play from Lin.

If the season were to end today,  the Rockets would hold the eighth and final seed in the Western Conference playoffs. But the surging Los Angeles Lakers are just 2.5 games back and the Dallas Mavericks just 4.5 back.

One positive sign for Houston is that Lin’s shooting percentage is trending up and his turnovers are down. It will be up to Lin to incorporate new strong forward Thomas Robinson into the offense. Robinson comes by way of a trade with the Sacramento Kings. He’s averaging 11.6 points and 4.6 rebounds a game in his rookie season. He was the fifth overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft.

The thinking goes that with continued strong performance from Harden and contributions from Omer Asik and Chandler Parsons, the playoff hopes for the Rockets rest with Lin.

Do you agree? If the Rockets don’t make the playoffs, should the blame be placed on Lin’s shoulders? If they do make the playoffs, does the credit also go to him?
