Non-traditional Indian dance will find an audience on the Columbia University campus in New York this Saturday. That’s when Naach Nation returns, a student competitions of groups that blend Indian Dance with other dance forms.

The competition is hosted by TAAL, Columbia’s South Asian fusion dance group. Competitors from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Drexel University, and University of Massachusetts Amherst will also be showcased, reports the Columbia Spectator.

“There is a very large collegiate world of competitions for other types of South Asian dance, which is something teams like us don’t fit into as nicely,” Rachel Turner, CC ’13 and Taal president, said. “This is to create a place for teams to interact with each other.”

You can find out more about the dancers attraction to Indian fusion dancing in this article in the Columbia Spectator.
