Bleacher Report: @HoustonRockets Need to Get Ball into @Jlin7 ‘s Hands

basketballJust accept it, folks. Jeremy Lin is a legitimate starting point guard. While Lin certainly has tons of adoring fans there is a vocal minority that makes a hobby of slamming the Harvard grad.

He’s only average, he’s overpaid, over hyped and we wouldn’t even know who he is if he weren’t Asian. People come up with all kinds of reasons for labeling Lin a flash in the pan.

But as a blog in the Bleacher Report points out, his numbers tell a different story.

His scoring average has consistently gone up when you break it down by month–from 10.2 to start the season to 13.8 the following month to 14.9 this month. With the higher scoring, comes greater accuracy. His shooting percentage has shot up from 26.3 the first month to 44.5 percent this month. Three point shooting has never been his strong point, but even that has improved significantly. He opened the season shooting 26.3 percent from behind the line in the first month. That average this month is 45.2 percent.

That steady improvement comes as his comfort level with the Houston Rockets offense increases along with his familiarity with back court mate James Harden. Don’t forget, this is only Lin’s first full season as a starter.

Yet despite this, there’s one number that remains puzzling.  Lin ranks just 40th among point guards in usage. As Maxwell Ogden in the Bleacher Report puts it, “one can’t help but wonder when the Rockets will let him open the offense up.”
