Patheos: Segregation & Asian America

ChinatownDo Asian Americans and other minorities segregate themselves or are there other factors at play here? That’s the question Jerry Park attempts to answer in Patheos.

It’s no secret minorities are often clustered in communities surrounded by their own ethnicity. Is this something minorities choose to do because it makes them few more comfortable. Or do economic circumstances tend to lead to segregation?

The theory goes that often low income and racial minority status go together. Thus you tend to see concentrations of the same ethnic group in the same neighborhood. But if that were true, why don’t we see more neighborhoods made up of multiple ethnic groups but from the same economic status?

Some might argue that is already happening with Chinese Americans in New York moving into Spanish Harlem.

How do all these theories specifically apply to Asian Americans. Find out in Patheos and let AsAmNews know your thoughts.
