NPR: Race Hate Incidents at Oberlin Colleges Force Cancellation of Classes

CATEGORIES

Oberlin CollegeA series of hate related incidents at Oberlin College prompted school officials to cancel classes today, NPR reported tonight

Instead administrators urged students to attend a rally in a show of solidarity against racial hatred.

The school acted after a person wearing what looked like a Ku Klux Klan outfit was spotted near the school’s Afrikan Heritage House.

Administrators issued the following statement:

“We hope today will allow the entire community — students, faculty, and staff — to make a strong statement about the values that we cherish here at Oberlin: inclusion, respect for others, and a strong and abiding faith in the worth of every individual. Indeed, the strength of Oberlin comes from our belief that diversity and openness enriches us all, and enhances the educational mission at its core.”

The KKK incident is the latest in a series of similar incidents on campus.
