The Indian Express: Immigration Advocates Push for More Green Cards for Skilled Workers

Statue of LibertyThe Indian Express reports American immigration advocates testified at a House Subcommittee yesterday calling for making green cards an avenue for sponsoring employers to recruit new workers and to eliminate the need to rely on the often cumbersome H-1B status.

“Create incentives for employers to petition for green cards at the beginning of the employment of skilled foreign- born employees, rather than keeping them in temporary status for most of a decade,” said Bruce A Morrison, of the Morrison Public Affairs Group.

The president of the IT Industry Council said the changes must be made to meet the demands of both businesses and the US economy.

“Reform must help fill the tens of thousands of skilled job openings that exist today, while accelerating new jobs for and new knowledge-driven businesses,” said Dean Garfield.
