Washington’s State legislature has passed a resolution honoring the contributions of the state’s Filipino Americans. the largest Asian and Pacific Islander ethnic population in the state, reports the Yakima Herald Republic.

“Their history and culture here in the Pacific Northwest helped make Washington what it is today, and it’s fitting that we honor that with a Senate resolution,”Sen. Jim Honeyford said in a news release.

The first Filipinos arrived in Washington in 1888 in Port Blakeley on Bainbridge Island and worked in the lumber mills.
