Inquirer: Filipino Americans Win Ethnic Media Awards

CATEGORIES

writingFilipino Americans were recognized Thursday night for excellence in journalism and coverage on ethnic community issues in Southern California, reported the Inquirer.

The award ceremony was presented by New America Media (NAM), Los Angeles Multicultural Leadership Network and KPCC. It also gave special recognition to inter-ethnic coverage by media outlets.

“Filipino media are one of the almost singular forces that are most loyal, most dedicated [NAM members] that have really pushed the New America Media to challenge itself, to keep on growing, and to really heighten the issues that we all share,” said Odette Keeley, NAM Awards Chairperson for California.

NAM received more than 150 submissions of print and broadcast journalistic works for the award. However, only 25 entries were selected as winners. A few others were cited as runners-up and honorable mentions. Four Filipino entries were among the winners in three different categories, including Outstanding Reporting on Civil Liberties Issues in Ethnic Communities in Broadcast, Outstanding Community Reporting for Television, and Emerging Youth Voices Award.
