Vanessa Hudgens is best known for her role in Disney’s High School Musical. Now the 24-year old actress is tackling a problem every child actor faces–making the transition to adult roles.
The fact that she’s a Disney star makes the transition even more difficult. Hudgens talked to the NY Times about the challenges she faces and her role in the upcoming Spring Breakers, which opens nationwide March 22.
“I want people to look at me not as that girl from ‘High School Musical,’ but as an actress they admire,” she said. “With ‘Spring Breakers’ I’m looking for a reaction for sure. I want to shock people.”
Hudgens, along with fellow former child actors Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson and Rachel Corine. rob a restaurant for their spring break trip, then get bailed out by a drug dealer.
“It was an amazing opportunity for us,” Ms. Hudgens said. “Selena and I are both young, finding our footing, wanting to grow.” Ms. Gomez added, “I’ve never been part of a movie I would watch over and over again, and I’m really proud of it.”
