SF Chronicle: Rep Mike Honda Goes High Tech in Face of New Challenger. @RepMikeHonda

Mike HondaRep Mike Honda has long been a champion of the Asian American community. But with redistricting and the strong likelihood that he will face a challenger from the South Asian American community in the next election, he is turning to his constituency to help him go high tech.

The SF Chronicle reports he is the first congressperson to turn to crowdsourcing to help him redesign his website. The seven term congressperson is making greater efforts to connect with his constituency in Silicon Valley.

“It’s time to reinvent ourselves, and the way you do that is a process,” Honda told the SF Chronicle . “You open up to people who are out there.”

One immediate result is he has doubled the number of twitter followers that two other congressional representatives from Silicon Valley have.

Honda is changing with the political landscape. The political map has been redrawn so that Honda’s district extends into largely areas with large population of South Asian Americans.

35-year old Indian American Ro Khanna, the son of Indian parents, has already raised 1.2 million dollars for a potential run.
