Comedian and gay icon Margaret Cho(seen here with her parents) is calling the whole Michelle Shocked episode “freaky.” In case you missed it, the alt-fok singer went on a anti-gay tirade on stage during a performance in San Francisco.
“Once Prop 8 (which banned gay marriage in California) gets instated and once preachers are held at gunpoint and forced to marry the homosexuals, I’m pretty sure that that will be the signal for Jesus to come on back,” Shocked told a truly stunned audience.
“You said you wanted reality,” she continued. “If someone would be so gracious as to tweet out that Michelle Shocked just said from stage, ‘God hates faggots.’ Would you do it now?”
Cho responded to Shocked in a blog she wrote for Huff Gay Voices.
“When the shock wore off, I found that people were super angry, but I just got scared. I think that as a queer person of color, I have been scared my entire life,” wrote Cho.
“When people say that God hates fags, there’s this idea that it’s OK to kill us, that it doesn’t matter if we die, because if God — the supposedly loving force in the world, the one who is supposed to love everyone and everything, the one, the only, whatever, whenever — hates us, then how are we to exist? But if he hates us, why did he make so many of us?”
