The tragic killing of a Chinese American woman by a passing car in San Gabriel, east of Los Angeles has become synonymous with the frustration felt by Chinese American voters in that community.
The fatal accident in 2009 was the 143 person to die in traffic accident at that same intersection since 2003, according to the World Journal. Potholes in the area are a contributing factor to the unsafe driving conditions in the area.
Yet nothing has been done about the roads despite the high number of fatalities. Frustrated voters have elected two Chinese Americans to the city council in the last election and voters are demanding change.
