Sampan: Asian American Diabetes Initiative Annual Gala Raises Awareness on Diabetes

HealthSupporters from the Asian American community in Boston gathered at an annual gala to raise awareness and funds for the Joslin Diabetes Center’s Asian American Diabetes Initiative on March 18, reported Sampan.

Guests enjoyed an open bar and South and East Asian inspired hors d’oeuvres while making bids on items at a silent auction and entering a raffle for $50 each.

Event organizers underscored the threat of diabetes, especially among the South Asian Americans.

“South Asians look lean, but we have a significantly higher risk [out of any group] of developing diabetes,” said Sridaran Natesan, co-chair of the event.

This year’s event, themed “A Spoonful of Ginger”, features a classical Indian dance and a chole chaat salad made with green and red peppers and chickpeas.
