The history of mixed race mixed roots Japanese Americans is set to be told at the Japanese American National Museum. The exhibition titled Visible & Invisible, A Hapa Japanese American History is a joint project of the museum in Los Angeles and the USC Hapa Japanese Database Project.
Visible and Invisible opens April 7 and runs through August 25th with photos, historical artifacts, multimedia images, and interactive components. The exhibition will be preceeded by the Hapa Japan Festival April 2 through April 6 with a free opening party planned for the 6th.
It is predicted by the next census count, a majority of Japanese Americans will be of mixed race heritage. Visible and Invisible will look back at the racial segregation and anti-miscegenation laws that criminalized interracial marriages. The exhibition will also explore issues of Hapa identity.
