Paging @DrSanjayGupta, Paging Doctor Sanjay Gupta

Monday MorningsDr. Sanjay Gupta best known for his reporting as a medical correspondent for CNN is quite proud of his new television drama, Monday Mornings. Not only is the show based on Gupta’s book by the same name, he is also executive producer of the television show.

He’s should be proud, and I can’t blame him for splashing the show with promotions of his show on his own twitter page.

But sure wish he would do something about one of the characters on Monday Mornings. Hyphen Magazine reports that the character Dr. Sung Park as played by Keong Sim continues to speak with broken English and has so far shown the depth of a piece of cardboard. Diane Choie in her column for Hyphen Magazine has taken to call his speech Sung-ian gems. The neurosurgeon tells his colleagues,  “Surgery futile. Cannot fix.”  “Not do, not ethical, not apologize,” he went on to say. I’m sorry, but even the newest immigrants to America don’t speak this way.

Dr Gupta, you’ve saved a lot of real life people on the operating table in your lifetime. Is there anything you can do to save this character from a fatal dose of stereotypes?
