A Pakistani American based in Boston is going straight for the women’s heart with a new romance novel venture with values and traditions relatable to South Asians.
According to The National, the web publishing venture started by Naheed Hassan promises to provide “romance for the South Asian soul”.
“All western romantic fiction is about blonde, blue-eyed women who travel to Italy and are swept off their feet by a count,” says Hassan. “I’m neither blonde nor blue-eyed, and there were no Italian millionaires anywhere near me.”
Her novels will reflect the cultural norms of South Asians. Women in her novels will consider their own families wishes, not just their own. She hopes to publish 5 to 10 novels a month in the first few months.
