A student launched initiative got underway today to increase access and graduation rates of higher education for Asian Americans & Pacific Islander students, according to Diverse Issues in Higher Education.
The campaign “titled “We’re the Changing Face of America” will be part of a strategic partnership between three Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander serving institutions, DeAnza College in San Jose, CA; City College of San Francisco; and South Seattle Community College.
Among some Asian American and Pacific Islander groups nearly 65 percent of adults 25 years or older will never attend college. This campaign is for those who have lacked access to higher education.
“Our students have told us they need a voice; they need a platform. We’re often overlooked,” said Neil Horikoshi, the president of the Asian and Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund. “This campaign is about allowing our students, community members and leaders throughout the nation to be part of the community dialogue.”
