The signing of Steve Nash by the Los Angeles Lakers hasn’t exactly worked the way the Angelenos had planned. The future Hall of Famer has had an injury plagued season and currently ranks 40th among active point guards.
Meanwhile, Jeremy Lin has been a perfect complement for James Harden and the Houston Rockets. The Rockets currently rank 7th in the Western Conference Playoff race with just 11 games to go. Barring a total collapse, the Rockets should make their first playoff appearance since 2009.
However, Erik Lambert in his blog for Gather, wonders whether Lin would be more valuable to the Rockets as trade bait than as their starting point guard. One team he suggests they dangle Lin in front of is the Lakers. At 38-years old, Nash’s days as a starter may be numbered. At 24, Lin could be the youthful energy the Lakers need.
While that may be true, Lambert doesn’t say what the Lakers could give the Rockets in return. Would he trade Nash and perhaps a future draft choice for Nash? The Rockets are one of the youngest teams in the NBA. Bringing Nash in could provide a steady veteran presence the Rockets might need.
