Boston Globe: Influx of Chinese Immigrants in Suburbs Changing Life As Everyone Knows It

Acton, MAAn influx of Chinese immigrants attracted by a school district with high test scores has greatly influenced life in the small Boston suburb of Acton, according to a story in the Boston Globe.

Asian ethnic groups now make up 19 percent of Acton, and the Chinese American population has increased 150 percent  in the last decade to 2041.

The town’s library now has a large collection of Chinese language materials and the town’s first Chinese culture day attracted a crowd of 3,000, six times more than expected. In 2011, the town combined its celebration of Chinese New Year with Acton’s 275th anniversary. Acton also now has a Chinese language school and a real estate firm with bilingual staff calls itself Good Schools Realty.

CNN’s Money has named Acton one of the best places to live twice in the last four years.

You can read more about life in this town for Chinese immigrants and how the influx has impacted the town as a whole in the Boston Globe.
