Journalist and author Laura Ling, 36, remembered her days of being captured by North Korean soldiers along the Chinese-North Korean border in a recent interview with Hartford Magazine.

“I have to say, not a day goes by when I don’t think of something that happened there. Not in a traumatic way, but because it was such a profound part of my life,” she said.

Ling was imprisoned for 140 days in North Korea while working on a story about women trafficking with her colleague in 2009. They were later granted a special pardon and returned to the United States.

“I was not able to talk much about my experience until I wrote the book ‘Somewhere Inside: One Sister’s Captivity in North Korea and the Other’s Fight to Bring Her Home’ with my sister, she said. “I had to do it in my own time, in my own way.”

Laura Ling said her two-and-a-half year old daughter and her family are her priorities as she works on “E! Investigates” and a nightly news show on KCET in Los Angeles.

She is expected to speak on “Eliminating Racism, Empowering Women” at the Hartford YWCA 18th Annual “In the Company of Women” luncheon at the Connecticut Convention Center on April 9.
