The National Korean American Service & Education Consortium is voicing its opposition to a proposal by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) that would make family less a priority in applications for visas and green cards, reports ABC/Univision.
“This is not a family court we’re dealing with here. We’re dealing about an economic need,” Graham said in support of making skilled labor a higher priority.
But the Consortium responded by organizing a photo contest encouraging pictures that highlight the role of family in immigrant communities.
“Some members of Congress think that jeopardizing certain members of our community in the name of economic prosperity is O.K. We’re here to tell them it’s not,” said Dong Yoon Kim, program associate with NAKASEC.
The photos will be part of the group’s family campaign.
